PARTY POKER ERA
Submitted by Erik Smith on Sunday, August 14, 2011 - 11:37
In 2003 a shift occured in the online poker industry. Up until then companies such as Planet Poker & Paradise Poker only offering poker games had been dominating the industry. These companies were now crushed by many online casino operators rapidly outgrowing most of the established poker rooms.
The next world leading poker room, Party Poker, had its roots in Starluck Casino. In the early stages Starluck’s blackjack software were proven rigged with an abnormal low payout. What later became known as PartyCasino & PartyPoker developed their own software company under the name iglobalmedia. From that point on the casino software was build in house and thereby it was no longer provided by a rigged 3rd party.
While poker steadily grew in popularity Party Poker launched a television campaign in 2003. The campaign ran during the World Poker Tour bringing No-limit Hold’em tournament poker into millions of American homes.
The successful TV campaign and the launch of the Party Poker Million tournament put Party Poker ahead of competition and nothing seemed able to stop them from running over the competitors.
THE POKER SCENE FLOODED WITH CASINOS
The profit margin in the online casino industry is considerably higher than that of the online poker industry and experienced online casino marketers swiftly got a major part of the poker market share.
Besides the new world leading online poker company PartyPoker, Pacific Poker backed by Casino-On-Net appeared alongside other networks such as Cryptologic Network known as Inter Casino Poker. Prima Poker was backed by some of the biggest online casino operators such as Royal Vegas Casino, The Gaming Club, Riverbelle etc. Boss Media originally known for building video poker machines started IPN International Poker Network with a group of current casino licensees.
