POKER MARKET SHARE 2012
January: The Danish Government via Spillemyndigheden (Danish Gambling Association) granted foreign gambling companies Danish license to operate in Denmark. This did not have any impact on the chart below but nevertheless an important day for online poker since the Danish Goverment did not ring fence the Danish players it only taxed the companies and players.
June: The Spanish Government went live with its new gambling laws forcing poker rooms to pay gaming taxes in Spain and ring fence its Spanish players. This event had a major impact on the online poker industry since yet another major European country disappeared from the international player liquidity pool.
August: PokerStars announced it had made a deal with the DOJ to pay a $550 millon fine in relation to Black Friday and to purchase Full Tilt Poker for $225 million. This was the biggest news story since Black Friday and came as a big relief to poker players around the world. Read the news post "Pokerstars Takes Over Full Tilt".
October: Everest Poker closed and moved to iPoker
November: Full Tilt Poker re-opened hosted by its new owner PokerStars.
