A poker freeroll is usually a poker tournament which is free to enter. The name refer to it is a free roll meaning that you get a chance to win money without staking any funds. The buyin is $0 but you can win cash money. Freerolls are much less frequent today (in 2012) as they were in the earlier days of online poker.

Today freerolls are commonly used to reward loyal costumers but not to attract new players.
